The zoo!

What a fun week we are having. Yesterday we took Calvin to the zoo for the first time. He has been super interested in animals the last few months so I thought it would be a fun outing, especially since Grandma is visiting. We had a blast! So much fun, in fact, that we bought a year membership so we can go back often!

The Amsterdam zoo is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and located dead smack in the center of town. Unusual, and AWESOME because that means it takes about 10 minutes to get there. Super easy. So I'm excited to be able to continue going back with Calvin.

He was very Calvin-esque in his impressions of the zoo. He loved the dirt. He loved the toys and other kids. He was fascinated by the animals and expressed that by staring at them ... and then running and rolling in the dirt. He had a great time.

Our first big animals - a pack of lions.

The Cheetah way up in the tree. Right before this was the one that seemed to interest Calvin most, a large, crazy looking, pacing black panther. But it actually kind of scared me so we just moved on without any pictures.

The zoo was full of newborn animal babies, which was just amazing. We saw baby lions, gorillas, elephants, and here ... a baby giraffe! And it was SO close to us!

The little explorer.

Checking out the zebras with Grandma ... it sure was nice to have an extra pair of arms to haul our little tanker around with!

Elephants!

"Mom ... this elephant is cool ... but check out this tall grass!" ... seriously, that was the whole day with Calvin. I loved it.

What a fun time at the zoo!
